The injury occurred in the third over of Punjab Kings’ chase when Ngidi attempted a catch at mid-off to dismiss Priyansh Arya. He lost balance while backpedalling and fell awkwardly, hitting his head hard on the turf. The impact left him clutching his head as medical staff rushed in immediately.

Play was halted for nearly 15 minutes as concerned players and support staff gathered around. Ngidi was eventually stretchered off and taken away in an ambulance.

In a swift response, Delhi Traffic Police created a green corridor, allowing him to be transported to BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital near Rajendra Nagar in just 11 minutes.

Fortunately, the injury was not serious. Ngidi was discharged shortly after and returned to the team hotel, with positive signs of recovery.

“Lungi Ngidi is doing well and has now returned to the DC team hotel in New Delhi… the franchise medical staff will continue to take good care of him,” sources confirmed.

Delhi Capitals brought in Vipraj Nigam as a replacement, but Ngidi’s absence was felt as they failed to defend a massive 264-run total, losing the match by five wickets.

Ngidi has been a key performer for Delhi this season, picking up seven wickets in seven matches at an average of 29.42, with an economy rate of 8.70 and best figures of 3/27.
